~ sewing for my third year student ~ 'Cargo' inspired trousers in the make ~
-------------------------
My experience over 2 weeks of interning for 3rd year Fashion Textiles students was good. I am happy we got to get some time to see how end of 3rd year is going to be like for us. I believe it is very important to work with/ for other students to see and be involved in the process before it will be us. Also we see the process of having people work for others so we can get inspiration in how to get most of it for our third year. It seems a long time away but I reckon it will come pretty quick like everyone keeps saying. It is good to have the interning experience before in university before doing it in second year for a designer for Fashion Week. We go into them with more confidence then.
I was helping Janessa, Fashion Textiles Knit student. We got on really well, I am happy we got paired. When we will be in the same position, I would like my intern to be able to trust and do what I’d like her/him to do.
Summarising what I was doing over these weeks framing Easter holiday was a lot of pattern cutting, cutting fabric, getting fabrics from Sheperds Bush and to Brent Cross fabric shop, finding shoes for the final show and knitting and was sewing pieces together - I made a most of the blue and red cargo style trousers. I have learned how to sew more neat and how to do belt wholes for example. I feel more confident with the process of making a garment now.
Nomsa, I was assisting quite sometimes when Janessa didn't need me. I did some sewing and cutting out fabrics for her as well as knitting bits of her dresses.
All in all, I am happy I used the opportunity!
